The Tilta Hydra Articulating Car Mounting System is a three-leg car camera mount: three 6 inch suction cups, three heavy-duty articulating arms and a 75mm ball head that takes Manfrotto and Arca quick release plates, rated for camera payloads up to 44 lb. Choose regular suction cups, or the electronic version whose battery-powered cups watch their pressure in real time and pump out air automatically if one starts to leak.

Key Features

  • Three 6 inch suction cups and heavy-duty articulating arms carry payloads up to 44 lb while the system stays light enough to rig quickly.
  • Each articulating arm carries up to 17.5 lb and has a reversible locking knob.
  • The 75mm ball head has a low centre of gravity, up to 15 degrees of adjustment and a bubble level; other 75mm tripod heads also fit.
  • The head takes Arca and Manfrotto quick release plates, so mirrorless and lightweight cinema cameras mount with or without a cage.
  • The ball has dual 1/4" and 3/8" screws plus anti-slip screws for flat-base heads.
  • NATO quick release connections between the cups, arms and head keep setup fast.
  • Electronic version: three battery-powered cups monitor pressure in real time and increase suction automatically if a cup leaks, and a soft carrying case is included.
  • High-strength aluminum alloy and stainless steel construction.

In the Box

  • Regular Suction Cups: 1x Hydra Articulating Car Mounting System, 1x 1/4 Allen Key, 1x 3mm Allen Key, 1x 2.5mm Allen Key
  • Electronic Suction Cups: 1x Hydra Articulating Car Mounting System with Electronic Suction Cups, 1x 1/4 Allen Key, 1x 2.5mm Allen Key, 1x Soft Carrying Case for Hydra Articulating Car Mounting System with Electronic Suction Cups

How It Compares

  • Choose regular suction cups if you rig on clean, flat panels and check the cups yourself between takes.
  • Choose electronic suction cups if you want each cup to watch its own pressure and re-pump automatically while the car is moving. This version also comes with a soft carrying case.
  • Lighter cameras: for an Osmo Pocket, action camera or phone up to 600 g, the Tilta Hydra Alien Mini Electronic Suction Cup (6 Inch) Kit is a smaller one-cup rig.

FAQ

Will it stay on the car under hard braking?

Owners report it holding through abrupt stops. Tilta rates the system for 44 lb. Use flat panels, press each cup down firmly, keep the weight balanced over the cups, and add ratchet straps or safety chains for side or extended positions.

What cameras can it carry?

Mirrorless and lightweight cinema cameras, with or without a cage, up to 44 lb in total. The head takes Arca and Manfrotto quick release plates, and owners have run cameras such as the Sony FX6, FX3 and Freefly Ember on it.

Can I use it as a side mount?

Yes, but side mounting raises the risk of failure, so Tilta recommends extra securing with ratchet straps or safety chains. Because the arms use standard NATO rails, one owner mounted the arms straight to a camera cage for a lighter side rig.

The Manfrotto quick release plate feels loose. Can it be tightened?

Yes. Tilta explains that the locking lever can be tightened: separate the top of the head with an Allen key, remove the bolt holding the lever with a small star key, lift the lever off its gear and reposition it so it clamps tighter.

How long does it take to rig?

The cups, arms and head connect through NATO quick release, which owners describe as fast to assemble and to move between spots on the vehicle.
