Who we help

Most of our customers do not have a full-time gear specialist on the team: wedding and event videographers, documentary and corporate crews, independent productions, churches, schools and small studios. The hard part of buying gear is rarely one light or one lens. It is making sure every piece works together, fits the budget, and still makes sense when the next job is bigger.

  • Choose the right gear the first time. Tell us what you shoot and where. We recommend specific models and explain the trade-offs.
  • Build a kit that works together. Lights with the modifiers, stands and power they need. Cameras with the right cage, monitor, media and wireless video. We point out anything missing before you order.
  • See it in person. Our Vancouver showroom stocks much of what we recommend, so you can compare gear side by side.
  • Know when to upgrade. If your current kit already does the job, we will tell you.

"Buy the brightest light your budget allows. A light that is too bright can be dimmed. A light that is not bright enough cannot be fixed on set, and every softbox, bounce or diffusion panel you add takes output away."

Eric Chen, founder

Our story

Eric Chen founded Filmgear in Vancouver in 2015 as a film equipment rental company. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the business gradually moved from rentals to equipment sales. Today Filmgear Canada sells equipment only, from its Vancouver showroom and online, to independent creators and production companies across Canada.
