FAQ

amaran, answered

I'm new to lighting — where do I start?+
Start with one soft key light aimed at your face. For most creators that's an Ace 25x (small, battery), a Verge desktop panel, or a Ray 360c for more output. That single light is the biggest jump in how good your video looks — you can add color or a second light later. Tell us what you shoot and we'll pick one for your budget.
What's the difference between Ray and Halo?+
Ray is the full-color (RGB) line — pick it when you want creative colours and effects as well as a great key light. Halo is bi-color (warm-to-cool only) and aimed at clean, powerful studio key light. Both are new COB lights on a Bowens mount and run from the amaran app.
What's the difference between amaran and Aputure?+
amaran is Aputure's line for creators: the same color science, in lights that are simpler to use and more affordable. Aputure is the higher-output pro cinema line. They share the app and many mounts, so you can mix them as you grow.
Bi-color or RGB — which do I need?+
Bi-color lights go warm to cool (like sunlight to shade) — perfect as a clean key light on people. RGB adds every color, for mood and creative looks (think colored light behind you). Most creators want bi-color for their main light and an RGB tube for accents.
Can I control amaran lights from my phone?+
Yes — most amaran lights pair with the free amaran app over Bluetooth, so you can dim, set color temperature, choose colors and run lighting effects right from your phone.
Are these genuine, and do you ship across Canada?+
Yes on both. Filmgear Canada is an authorized Canadian amaran dealer — every light is genuine with full manufacturer warranty. We ship from within Canada with free expedited shipping on orders over $99, no surprise cross-border duties.
