The FPS Lowboy Steel Stand is a heavy-duty, low-base grip stand built to get lights, flags, and nets down close to the floor. Its combo head accepts both a 5/8" (16mm) baby pin and a 1-1/8" (28mm) junior receiver, so it mounts most on-set lighting and grip hardware without an adapter. One leg is an independent leveling leg, which keeps the stand stable on stairs, ramps, and uneven location floors where a standard stand would rock. It extends up to 1.94 m (6.4 ft) when you need some height.
Key features
- Combo head takes both 5/8" baby pins and 1-1/8" junior receivers, so most lights, flags, and grip heads mount without an adapter.
- Independent leveling leg adjusts on its own to keep the stand level on stairs, ramps, and uneven floors.
- Steel construction handles the weight of larger fixtures and modifiers.
- Low profile, rises to 1.94 m (6.4 ft) for low-angle and floor-level lighting that a tall stand can't reach.
Good fit for
Low-angle eye light, floor uplighting, lighting set walls, and any time a standard tall stand sits too high. Common on film sets, in studios, and on location.
Look elsewhere if
You need height above 1.94 m (choose a taller combo or century stand), or you're only supporting a light camera or monitor (a lighter stand is easier to carry and reposition).
FAQ
What can I mount on the combo head?
Both 5/8" (16mm) baby-pin fixtures and 1-1/8" (28mm) junior receivers. Most lights, flags, grip heads, and arms fit without an adapter.
What is the leveling leg for?
You can extend or retract one leg on its own to level the stand on stairs, ramps, and uneven floors instead of shimming it.
Why choose a lowboy instead of a regular stand?
A lowboy gets your fixture close to the floor for low-angle and eye-level light, where a standard stand's minimum height is too tall.
How tall does it go?
Up to 1.94 m (6.4 ft).
Should I sandbag it?
Yes. Sandbag the leg under the load whenever you hang a heavier fixture, modifier, or arm. It's standard grip-safety practice.
