What Is the Amaran Ray Series?
The Amaran Ray series is Aputure's new lineup of full-colour Bowens Mount COB (chip-on-board) monolights, powered by OmniColor — an upgraded full-colour light engine that expands the red and blue ranges and adds an indigo emitter for a more complete spectrum. The result is cleaner whites, truer skin tones, and SSI scores of 87 (Tungsten) and 80 (D56) across the entire range.
Every Ray model is a COB point source — the same fundamental fixture architecture as Aputure's professional line — with an all-in-one monolight body and Bowens mount for modifier compatibility. They are not tube lights. The numbers in the model name refer to wattage: the Ray 120c is 120W, the Ray 360c is 360W, and the Ray 660c is 660W.
At Filmgear Canada in Vancouver, we stock the full Ray lineup. The most common question we get is the 120c vs. 660c decision, so this guide covers both in depth.
