Who Is the Aputure Spotlight Max Kit with 36° Lens For?
The Aputure Spotlight Max Kit with 36° Lens is a professional projection lens modifier for filmmakers, gaffers, and lighting directors who need a precisely shaped, long-throw spotlight with gobo projection capability on high-powered Bowens Mount LED fixtures.
Gaffers and lighting directors on large narrative, commercial, and television sets
The Spotlight Max transforms fixtures like the LS 600d Pro, LS 1200d Pro, and Electro Storm XT26 into a theatrical-quality spotlight with internal 4-leaf shutters for sharp cuts, gobo compatibility for pattern projection, and a 60% brightness increase over the original Spotlight Mount — giving gaffers precise, repeatable control over hard light shapes at long distances.
Cinematographers and DPs who need controllable directional light on location or in the studio
The 36° lens strikes a balance between projection angle and throw — wide enough to illuminate a person in a mid-shot from across a studio, tight enough to single out a performer against a dark background. The internal shutters let you cut light precisely without additional flags or nets.
Best Use Cases for the Aputure Spotlight Max Kit with 36° Lens
The Spotlight Max is a modifier, not a light — it transforms your existing Bowens Mount fixture into a high-performance spotlight. The 36° lens is the most commonly chosen angle for general production work.
Theatrical spotlight and stage-style illumination for music videos and performance shoots
Mount the Spotlight Max on an LS 600d Pro or LS 1200d Pro to create a clean, circular pool of light. Use the internal cutters to hard-cut the edge of the beam for performance videos and theatrical lighting looks without the rental cost of a traditional 5K Fresnel or ETC Source Four.
Pattern and gobo projection for production design, branded environments, and cinematography
The included rotatable gobo clip holds A-sized metal or glass gobos for projecting custom patterns — logos, leaves, architectural details, breakup patterns — onto walls, floors, and subjects. An optional B-sized gobo kit and ETC lens adapter expand the gobo library to industry-standard ETC-compatible optics.
Is the Aputure Spotlight Max Good for Replacing a Traditional 5K Fresnel?
Yes, in many scenarios. When paired with the LS 600d Pro, the Spotlight Max 36° lens delivers 8,200 lux at 3 m and 2,952 lux at 5 m (5,600K). Paired with the LS 1200d Pro, output reaches 4,233 lux at 3 m. For productions that previously rented a 5K tungsten Fresnel for its hard light quality and throw, the Spotlight Max + LS 600d Pro combination provides comparable output with far better colour quality, no dimmer pack, and no tungsten heat — at a fraction of the operating cost per day.
Aputure Spotlight Max 36° Lens Kit Compatibility and Setup
Bowens Mount compatibility — 600W to 2600W fixtures
The Spotlight Max attaches via Bowens Mount and is optimized for Aputure LS 600 series (600d Pro, 600x Pro, 600c Pro), LS 1200d Pro, and the Electro Storm CS15 and XT26. It is mechanically compatible with other Bowens Mount fixtures, though photometric performance varies with lower-powered lights.
Detachable yoke for upright or underslung rigging
The detachable yoke enables the Spotlight Max to be mounted in both upright and underslung positions on lighting stands, pipes, or trusses — essential for theatrical setups where the light needs to come from overhead or at steep angles.
Gobo, iris, and ETC lens compatibility
Includes a rotatable gobo holder and three A-sized gobos. Compatible with B-sized metal and glass gobos (gobo kit sold separately). Optional iris available. Optional ETC lens adapter for ETC standard lenses.

Aputure Spotlight Max 36° Lens vs 19° and 50° Lens — Which Angle Do You Need?
Choose the 36° Lens if…
You need a versatile all-production spotlight angle — wide enough to illuminate a full figure from a standard throw distance, tight enough for clean pools of light and readable gobos. The 36° is the recommended starting lens for most narrative and commercial applications.
Choose the 19° Lens if…
You need the tightest, most intense spotlight beam — best for very long throw distances, dramatically narrow pools of light, and maximum gobo projection sharpness. Output per angular area is significantly higher than the 36°.
Is the Aputure Spotlight Max Kit with 36° Lens Worth It?
For productions that regularly use hard, shaped spotlight effects — theatre-style lighting, music videos, high-end branded content, drama — yes. The Spotlight Max makes a fixture you already own (an LS 600d Pro or LS 1200d Pro) perform a completely different lighting function. The internal shutters, gobo slot, and yoke flexibility match what a traditional ETC Source Four provides, but powered by a modern LED with colour accuracy a tungsten fixture cannot touch. The hard rolling case and gobo starter kit in this bundle complete the package for immediate on-set deployment.
