The Tilta Universal Cooling System is a thermoelectric (TEC) camera cooling fan that latches onto the back of a mirrorless camera to pull heat out of the body and fight camera overheating during long recording, livestreams and interviews. It has a Quiet mode (as low as 5°C), an Ice-Cool mode (as low as 0°C) and an Auto mode that holds 20°C ± 3°C, shows the temperature on a TFT colour display, and runs from USB-C PD power or Tilta's 3000mAh magnetic Power Supply. Buy the cooler on its own, the Power Kit with the magnetic Power Supply, or the Power Supply by itself.

Key Features

  • Thermoelectric (semiconductor) cooling plate, aluminum alloy heatsink fins, a near-silent fan and high thermal conductivity silicone against the camera body. In Level 2 the contact surface can reach as low as 0°C (32°F).
  • Three modes: Level 1 Quiet Mode (as low as 5°C / 41°F, fan noise about 30 dB or below), Level 2 Ice-Cool Mode (as low as 0°C / 32°F) and Auto Mode, which adjusts cooling to hold 20°C ± 3°C (17°C to 23°C).
  • TFT colour display shows the real-time temperature and the current mode, so you can check the camera cooler at a glance.
  • Latch-based quick mount: one press to attach or release, with secure latch locking, so it moves between cameras without tools.
  • Two ways to power it: wired USB-C from a PD power source, a V-Mount battery or a power bank, or the 3000mAh magnetic Power Supply that snaps on for a cable-free setup (included in the Power Kit).
  • Tilta lists a wide range of compatible Sony, Canon, Nikon, Fujifilm and Panasonic Lumix cameras, including the Sony FX3, FX30, A7 IV, A7S III and ZV-E10, Canon R5, R6 Mark II and R8, Nikon Zf, Fujifilm X-H2S and Lumix GH7.
  • The cooling unit weighs about 117 g (4.13 oz) and measures 94 x 53 x 24.5 mm in an aluminum alloy and ABS body.

How It Compares

  • Choose Cooling System Only if you will run the cooler from USB-C: a PD power source, a V-Mount battery or a power bank. It suits tripod work such as interviews and livestreams. A USB-C to USB-C cable is included.
  • Choose the Power Kit if you want a cable-free setup. The 3000mAh magnetic Power Supply snaps onto the cooler, which keeps a handheld or run-and-gun rig free of extra cables. The Power Kit does not include a USB-C cable, so bring your own if you also want to run the cooler on wired power.
  • Choose Power Supply if you already own the Universal Cooling System and want a spare or cable-free power option. No USB-C cable is included.
  • Tilta Universal Cooling System or Ulanzi CU01? Both are thermoelectric coolers with three levels and a 3000mAh magnetic battery. The Tilta shows temperature and mode on a TFT colour display and its Auto mode holds 20°C ± 3°C. Ulanzi lists an LED indicator, a cooler that holds 8°C and up to 85 minutes on its battery at Level 1. The Tilta cooling unit weighs about 117 g; Ulanzi lists about 106 g. Unlike a plain camera fan, both press a cooling plate against the camera body.

FAQ

Will it fit my camera?

Tilta lists Sony, Canon, Nikon, Fujifilm and Panasonic Lumix bodies such as the Sony FX3, FX30, A7 IV and ZV-E10, the Canon R5, R6 Mark II and R8, the Nikon Zf, the Fujifilm X-H2S and the Lumix GH7. The full list is in the Specifications table. The cooler latches onto the back of the camera, so you shoot with the screen flipped out.

Will the fan noise get into my audio?

Level 1 Quiet Mode runs at about 30 dB or below. Because the cooler sits right against the body, Tilta notes the fan can still be picked up by the camera's built-in microphone, while external microphones and recorders should not be affected. For interviews, use Level 1 with an external mic.

What is the difference between Cooling System Only, Power Kit and Power Supply?

Cooling System Only is the cooler with a USB-C to USB-C power cable, for running from a PD power source, V-Mount battery or power bank. The Power Kit is the cooler plus the 3000mAh magnetic Power Supply for a cable-free setup, and it does not include the USB-C cable. Power Supply is the magnetic battery on its own, also without a cable, for owners of the cooler who want a spare.

How should I power it for a full day of shooting?

Tilta recommends wired USB-C power from a PD power source or a V-Mount battery for extended runtime during livestreams, interviews and all-day shoots. The 3000mAh magnetic Power Supply snaps onto the cooler when you want to work without a cable.

Which cooling mode should I use?

Use Level 1 Quiet Mode (as low as 5°C) when you are recording sound on set, Level 2 Ice-Cool Mode (as low as 0°C) for maximum cooling in hot conditions, and Auto Mode to hold 20°C ± 3°C without adjusting it during a take. The TFT display shows the current mode and temperature.
