The Tilta EVF Extension Kit for Sony FX5 moves the Sony FX5 EVF, Sony's optional DVF-EL1 OLED viewfinder, off the top of the camera so you can put it where your eye is on a shoulder rig, a tripod or a handheld build. It pairs an 11.8 in (30 cm) EVF Extension Cable with an EVF Bracket that clamps onto the left NATO rail of the Tilta Camera Cage for Sony FX5 or another NATO rail, and you can buy the full kit, the cable or the bracket on its own.

Key Features

  • Made for the Sony FX5: the EVF Extension Cable plugs into the camera's EVF port and lets you place Sony's DVF-EL1 OLED viewfinder away from the camera body.
  • 11.8 in (30 cm) cable built from 13-core tinned-copper twisted-pair wire with reinforced PVC sheathing. Both ends use a strain-relief design for added pull and bend resistance.
  • The camera end fastens with two 1/4"-20 screws to keep the signal connection secure, and carries a built-in NATO rail with a 3/8"-16 thread with locating points and a 1/4"-20 adapter for a top handle, microphone or wireless transmitter.
  • The EVF end has extra 1/4"-20 threads with locating points and a 15mm rod holder, so the viewfinder can ride on an articulating arm or 15mm rods instead of the bracket.
  • The EVF Bracket clamps onto a NATO rail and adjusts on several axes: 105 mm (4.13 in) of horizontal travel along a 15mm rod, 123 mm (4.8 in) of vertical travel on a two-stage telescoping rod (up 70 mm, down 53 mm) and 360° rotation.
  • The bracket's vertical rod has a 3/8"-16 mount with locating points and a built-in 1/4"-20 adapter for a side handle such as the Tilta Advanced Wooden Side Handle.
  • For a shoulder rig, pair the cable with the Tilta Pro Articulating Arm to push the viewfinder out to the side, or lock it to 15mm rods with a rod holder.
  • Bracket in aluminum alloy and carbon fiber; cable ends in aluminum alloy and ABS. Black finish.

How It Compares

  • Choose the Extension Kit if you are starting from scratch and shoot with the Tilta Full Camera Cage for Sony FX5. You get the cable and the NATO bracket, and the bracket clamps straight onto the cage's left NATO rail.
  • Choose the Extension Cable if you will hold the viewfinder with an articulating arm, 15mm rods or a shoulder rig. Its EVF end has 1/4"-20 threads with locating points and a 15mm rod holder.
  • Choose the Bracket if you already own the extension cable and want a NATO-mounted holder with 105 mm of horizontal and 123 mm of vertical travel. The bracket holds the viewfinder; the cable is what connects it to the camera.
  • Tilta EVF Extension Kit or MID49 Sony FX5 EVF Cable and Mounting Kit? Both move the DVF-EL1 away from the top of the FX5. MID49 uses an 18 in cable and a handle riser that lets the viewfinder and Sony's XLR-H2 handle work at the same time. Tilta uses a 30 cm (11.8 in) cable and a NATO bracket with 105 mm horizontal and 123 mm vertical travel, and Tilta has said it is still developing an adapter for running the XLR-H2 handle together with the viewfinder. Choose MID49 if you need the XLR-H2 audio inputs and the viewfinder on the same rig today.
  • Compared with the stock mount: on its own the DVF-EL1 sits on top of the FX5 and tilts up from 0° to about 90°. With this kit you can slide, raise, lower and rotate it away from the body.

FAQ

Does the kit include the Sony FX5 viewfinder?

No. The kit works with Sony's optional DVF-EL1 OLED viewfinder for the FX5, which is sold separately. The extension cable runs between the camera's EVF port and the viewfinder, and the bracket or your own rig holds the viewfinder where you want it.

Can I use the Sony XLR-H2 handle and the viewfinder at the same time?

Not with this kit for now. Sony states the OLED viewfinder cannot be used at the same time as accessories that need the Multi Interface Shoe, including the XLR-H2 Handle Unit. Tilta told CineD at IBC 2026 that it is developing a separate adapter so both can run together. If you need the XLR-H2 audio inputs and the viewfinder on one rig today, look at the MID49 Sony FX5 EVF Cable and Mounting Kit.

What is the difference between the Extension Kit, Extension Cable and Bracket?

The Extension Kit includes both the EVF Extension Cable and the EVF Bracket with NATO Mount. Buy the Extension Cable alone if you will hold the viewfinder with an articulating arm or 15mm rods, and the Bracket alone if you already have the cable. The bracket needs the cable to connect the viewfinder to the camera.

Will it work with my FX5 cage?

The bracket is designed for the Tilta Camera Cage for Sony FX5 and clamps directly onto the cage's left side NATO rail. On other cages it slides onto any NATO rail, or you can mount the cable's EVF end with its 1/4"-20 threads or its 15mm rod holder.

How far can I move the viewfinder?

The cable is 30 cm (11.8 in) long. On the bracket, the viewfinder slides 105 mm (4.13 in) side to side on a 15mm rod, moves 123 mm (4.8 in) up and down on a two-stage telescoping rod (70 mm up, 53 mm down) and rotates 360°.
